park. Harbert and her springer spaniel, Zoe, come to the park to enjoy the company of other dogs, and to give the dogs a chance to socialize. Newhouse was also drawn by the opportunity to meet other people. "Well, now we are dating, but before that, I used to come out here to meet girls," he confesses. Other people come to Davie Dog Park to exchange information and learn from others. "It allows dog owners to share tips for a first-time dog owner; it's helpful," says Barbara Davis. She and her border collie mix, Charlie, frequent the park four or five times a week. "I live in a condo and that is a very restrictive lifestyle for a dog," she says. "We just like it because there are different sections and, because he is in between sizes, we can go to the small (park), too."

Linda Ripper of the Raintree community enjoys the natural aspect of the park. She and newly adopted dog, Daphne, like the trail-like atmosphere the park provides. "It's not an open field with a fence. It's like walking through the woods in an actual habitat," Ripper says. You and your dog can enjoy the park from 7:30 a.m. until sunset every day. Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation rules require that owners follow all posted guidelines. Dogs must have current vaccinations (rabies with tag number, DHLPP and Bordetella). The next time that Spot or Fido look up at you with those longing eyes, remember Davie Dog Park. You'll turn into "Super Mom" or "Super Dad" in the eyes of your appreciative pup. And you'll likely have fun, too.
