Golf Club Honors Military, Adds Event To honor the military during Armed Forces Week, May 12- 19, The Golf Club at Ballantyne is offering 50 percent off the regular golf rate. Present a military identification upon arrival. Reserve a tee time at 704-248-4383.
The club will also host a new golf tournament as part of Charlotte Wine & Food Weekend. The April 18 event will have a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m., followed by an awards luncheon. Prizes for the longest drive, the longest putt, straightest drive and closest to the pin will be given. Players with a hole-in-one could win a new Lincoln, one of the sponsoring partners for this year's wine and food festival. Chamber Announces Luncheon Dates The Ballantyne chapter of the Charlotte Chamber will hold meetings this spring on three Thursdays — March 1, April 5 and May 3. Ballantyne Elementary Wins Cookware Ballantyne Elementary School won a $2,000 grant for new cookware from First Lady Michelle Obama's "Let's Move" initiative. Diane Davis, the school's cafeteria manager, entered the nationwide challenge to develop nutritious recipes for school lunchrooms. The cookware kit includes a stock pot, induction burner, sauce pan and utensils. Davis and the school's "adopted" chef, Tori Groat, will use the new cookware to teach children and their parents how to cook healthy meals.
Endhaven Nabs Award, Spotlights Fitness Teacher Dee Chinault and her fifth-grade science students at Endhaven Elementary School received the Field to Fork Award from the Mecklenburg County Health Department, Fuel Pizza Café of Charlotte, the Mecklenburg County Fruit & Vegetable Coalition, Charlotte Green and the Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools. The initiative features students and teachers in CMS learning about the health benefits of vegetables and herbs through growing "pizza gardens." In 2012, the program
will involve 14 elementary schools with the help of funding through a grant provided by The 704 Project.
In January, Endhaven hosted its first Family Fitness Night, which featured five exercise stations. Parents and community volunteers coordinated the event. Firm Celebrates Milestone, Rebrands Burke Communications, a full-service Charlotte
The firm's updated logo and colors, collateral, brochures, folders, videos and website were completed to honor the company's 20th anniversary. The agency has a creative department and in-house production video suite with film studio capabilities. Websites also constitute a major component of Burke's core business. In 2011, the Charlotte Business Journal ranked the agency 25th in the small business category as one of the Best Places to Work in Charlotte. The agency has also received two Addys, a Telly and two MarCom Awards for videos.
Courtyard by Marriott Renovates Lobby
The Courtyard by Marriott in Ballantyne Corporate Park has completed an extensive lobby renovation. The new design features flexible work and social spaces, including booths with HD TVs, and a 24/7 food and beverage market.
