1 Breakfast Club Meets at The Ballantyne Dates and meeting topics of the Ballantyne Breakfast Club are posted at the group's website. Free and open to the public, meetings are held at The Ballantyne Saturday mornings at 9. Info: www.ballantynebreakfastclub.com. 2 Morrison Family Y Hosts Tri! Events The Morrison Family YMCA is hosting Tri! Ballantyne and Ride! Ballantyne events again this summer. Both benefit the YMCA Annual Campaign, which aids under-resourced local children. Tri! Ballantyne is Saturday, July 14, and features a 300-yard swim, 12.7-mile bike ride and 3.1-mile run. Ride! Ballantyne, on Saturday, Sept. 1, is for cyclists of all fitness levels. The event offers riding options of 35, 40, 63 and 80 miles and includes fueling stations, restrooms and mechanical bike repair along the four routes. Details/registration for both events: www.ymcacharlotte.org/races. 3 Halls of Fame Induct Laura DuPont Laura DuPont, a 1960s graduate of Our Lady of Mercy, now a part of Charlotte Catholic High School, was inducted into the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame in May and the Southern Tennis Hall of Fame in January. DuPont is the most successful women's tennis player to come from the state. Her highest year-end ranking was No. 10 in the world in singles in 1977 and No. 4 in doubles with Pam Shriver in 1980. She also was a star basketball player in high school, and Catholic High named her to its hall of fame in 2000. A teaching pro after retiring from the tour, DuPont died from breast cancer in 2002. She was 52. Details: www.ncshof.org/. 4 Market Sells Produce, Christmas Trees The farmers market at the Village at Robinson Farm is open every Wednesday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through autumn and will sell Christmas trees during the holiday season.
