BALLANTYNE | wire Rotary Members Aid Haiti Ballantyne Rotary Club members Tom Harman, Ineke Van der Meulen, Axel Lindenbeck and friends traveled to Bayonnais in Haiti last April to dedicate a successful international project to reinforce and widen a main road that had been washed out, and to build a new home for a family displaced by the road project. Members also visited the newly formed Rotary Club de Bayonnais and presented its president, Kenold Decimus, with a gavel, T-shirts and Rotary pins. The group was hosted in Bayonnais by OFCB ministries, which schools and feeds 1,800 students isolated in the Haitian mountains. To offer help or to partner with the Ballantyne Rotary Club, call Harman, the international service chair, at 704-543-4001. This fall the club will hold its annual golf tournament on Monday, Oct. 8, with proceeds going to the Haiti project and other efforts. Santos Foundation Carries On with 5K Run Isabella Santos, the seven-year-old daughter of Ballantyne residents Erin and Stuart Santos, died June 28 of pediatric cancer. But the foundation established in honor of her heroic battle against neuroblastoma for the past five years is continuing its mission to raise awareness and funds to find a cure. The foundation's signature event — the fifth annual Isabella Santos Foundation 5K Race for Kids Cancer presented by United Support Services Inc. — is Sept. 22 in Ballantyne Corporate Park at 8 a.m. Last year the race drew 720 participants and raised almost $70,000. Monies raised have enabled the foundation to provide financial assistance to over a dozen local Charlotte families with children who have cancer, as well as to the Ronald McDonald House, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Community Blood Center of the Carolinas and Band of Parents.
