BALLANTYNE | wire NEWS CUES Community House Hosts Festival, Lectures Ballantyne Festival Oct. 6 at YMCA The annual Ballantyne Festival hosted by the Morrison Family YMCA, Ballantyne Breakfast Club and Ballantyne Chapter of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce is Saturday, Oct. 6 at the Morrison Y. The free, family-friendly event kicks off at 9 a.m. with a parade, followed by games, crafts, entertainment, dancing and food vendors. The festival runs until dusk. The event also features the annual Candidates Meet & Greet Chili Cook-Off from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Over 20 political candidates running for national, state and local offices will be there to meet the public. Hall Family Farm The Community House Fall Festival is Saturday, Sept. 22, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the historic log cabin. The event features booths with jewelry, fashion accessories, candles, garden art, hand-painted glassware and handmade wooden children's toys. Big Bob Gibson will provide barbecue sandwiches and plates. Hot dogs will be available for children. There will be seating inside the cabin for meals, and a homemade bake sale. The historic log cabin, also known as the Lower Providence Community House, is located at 9735 Community House Road, across from Community House Middle School. The Community House also hosts its fall lecture series on Sunday afternoons at 3 p.m. Topics include "College Countdown" with Lee Bierer on Sept. 23 and "How to Decorate for Christmas" with Susan Kooiman of Peppermint Forest on Oct. 28. Tickets are $10 at the door. Proceeds from the festival and lecture series go toward cabin restoration. Women of the club meet at 10 a.m. on the third Monday of every month, and all in the community are welcome to join. Details: www.lowerprovidencelogcabin.org. Adds Corn Maze The Hall Family Farm is adding a five-acre Corn Maze to its pumpkin-patch activities for the fall. The maze will open on weekends in September and expand to weekdays during the month of October. Details: www.hallfamilyfarm.com. Light Factory Y Hosts Zumbathon, Sells Golf Tickets Features 'Artifacts' "Artifacts," a film produced by Ballantyne independent filmmaker Joe Keller, was featured in the Light Factory film showcase in May and June. Keller received an emerging artist grant from the Arts & Science Council in 2009. The Latin-influenced, full-body dance/exercise class is free. Reserve space at 704-716-4680. The Chiquita Classic, a PGA national golf tournament, is Sept. 24-30 at Longview Country Club. All proceeds from tickets purchased at the Morrison Y or Ballantyne Village Y will benefit the YMCA 2012 Community Support Campaign. FALL 2012
