■ continued from page 68 Blending the Course With the Park In Ballantyne, there were parameters the design committee had to consider in bringing the course to life. "Smoky made it very clear we were not to mess up his ofce buildings," Harris says. "We were very cognizant of how it would be laid out." At one point, Bissell proposed literally blending the course with the buildings surrounding it, suggesting the tee for the second hole be built atop a parking garage. It was, if nothing else, a novel concept. "We had to explain to Smoky how that was going to slow things down," Harris says. The tunnel under North Community House Road links holes 3 and 4. The Golf Club at Ballantyne features two tunnels. Here is the one under North Community House Road. The course was built around high-quality service, superior conditioning and giving golfers a country-club experience at a daily-fee site. Above: The 15th green during construction is almost complete.
