The great thing about a picnic is that you can make it as elaborate or as easygoing as you want depending on where you're going, whom you're going with and how much time you have to prepare. The true beauty of a picnic is the lovely scenery and the opportunity to enjoy the fresh air. Before planning your outing, you should consider a few things, such as how many people will be there, where you're going, what is the seating situation and are there any restrictions on glass containers. For Families: Simplicity For a memorable picnic that's fun for the whole family, it's best to keep it simple. Planning to take kids out to eat always requires packing extra of everything. Keeping the food easy to eat and transport assures mom and dad will have a good time on the picnic as well. Pack peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, individual bags of chips or popcorn, cheese, grapes and juice boxes. Throw these items together in 10 minutes as you pack your picnic basket. Be sure to include plenty of extra napkins, paper plates and even some wipes for cleaning up sticky little hands and faces. Opposite: Keeping meals and snacks easy puts the focus on family fun. Hanging out together sets the stage for all kinds of family enjoyment. BALLANTYNE MAGAZINE 37 SUMMER 2016
