An ideal time to capture Washington, D.C.'s essence is during the National Cherry Blossom Festival, which creates a spectacular backdrop for the mall and nearby area. This year's festival runs from March 20 to April 17. Average peak bloom is April 4, but blossoms last 14 days so there's a good window of time to catch the show. You can immerse yourself in the futtering pink froth by walking, taking the National Mall Circulator bus or riding a bike (rent from Capital Bikeshare or popular Bike and Roll DC, which also ofers tours).
