As the Indian-American population grows here, the spectacle of a maharajah (Indian prince) on horseback is no longer a fantasy. One of the top wedding venues in Charlotte, The Ballantyne Hotel & Lodge has become a nationwide destination for Indian weddings lavish in cultural detail. In the past year, fve such unions have taken place, drawing brides R oshan and Shilpa Patel's nuptials were a three-day extravaganza that featured traditional elements of Indian weddings. The Patels sit in throne-like chairs on a mandap. Roshan wears a safa wedding turban, and a mang tikka jewel adorns Shilpa's forehead.
