ON A DAMP WEDNESDAY NIGHT IN JANUARY, a south Charlotte shopping center is nearly dark. But there's one spot tucked in the corner where the lights are on and there's clearly something to see inside. Michael Jackson's "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" is playing

in the background, just loud enough so that you can still hear it over the chatter in the room. The chatter is constant, punctuated by steady bursts of laughter. And there are bottles of wine. Lots of them. This is girls' night out, after all! Cyndi James, a florist in
Ballantyne, left her three kids at home with her husband for the night.
"You can't put it into words; I don't get out very often so I jumped at the opportunity!" she says. James has come with a girlfriend from the neighborhood to Painting With
a Twist, an art studio where instructors lead attendees step by step through the process of creating a painting. The "twist" refers to the twist of the cork, because wine is just as much a part of this class as the paint. "It just makes it fun for people," says artist Jennifer
