BALLANTYNE | faces SCOTT WICKERSHAM
Birthplace: Ann Arbor, Mich. Job: Anchor/reporter, WSOC-TV.
What do you like most about your job? Anchoring a newscast is like telling a friend a story. So basically I get to spend each day with friends talking about what happened that day, and what's happening right now.
What's your guilty pleasure? PlayStation 3. Do you live in Ballantyne? Yes.
What is your favorite Ballantyne-area restaurant? Villa Antonio.
What is your favorite outdoor activity? Running, or strolling with the kids.
Describe your dream vacation. A small tropical island with access to a private beach and boat. And a babysitter to entertain the kids while mom and dad relax!
What is your favorite news source? WSOC-TV, WAXN-TV 64 or www.wsoctv.com.
What charitable organizations are you involved with? I've been active with the Hopebuilders 5K, which raises money for Levine Children's Hospital. I also raise money for the Make-a-Wish Foundation through the Queen's Cup Steeplechase. Since I became a father, I felt the need to help children in pain or suffering. I can't imagine what their parents must be going through, the helpless feeling of having a sick child. Any help to ease their burden can be a blessing.
What is your biggest pet peeve? Clutter.
What is a hidden gem in Ballantyne? The 521 District Park Recreation Center. It's right behind Elon Park Elementary. This county park is great! In addition to a gym and activity center, there are 36 holes of disc golf, which I love to play. It has a nice pond with fish. I know because I caught an 18-inch bass there a few years back. Watch out for the snapping turtles, though.
What would people never guess about you? I love to fish and camp. I don't get out as much as I used to. Still, each year I take a few days to go on a fishing trip with my buddies back in Michigan. I've won the trophy for largest bass two years running! There is nothing like a campfire and the stars at night.
