The handwritten thank-you note is simple, but the experts break it down even further. "It's very simple," Shaw says. "The most important components of an exceptional thank-you note are promptness, sincerity and specifics. Don't get caught up in being nervous about the specific, correct way on how to write a thank-you note. I would much rather see somebody do it promptly, sincerely and with specifics than not to do it at all because they're concerned with format." When dealing with a single gift, or if you are thanking someone for a one-time interview, many consider it best to send a note within a week, if possible.
