IN THE DEAD OF WINTER ANGUILLA
APPEARS LIKE A MIRAGE. Aquamarine waters
lap the edges of pristine white-sand beaches
that seem to stretch from here to eternity
with nary a soul to be seen. For couples in
search of a total break from hectic work
and family schedules, this idyllic Caribbean
island offers the perfect romantic escape.
"We needed to defrag," says June Kaplan,
a Ballantyne resident and busy mother who
recently vacationed there with fiance Andrew
Slattery, a local businessman. "Our lives are
crazy with four kids between us. It was my
40th birthday and his 42nd, so we wanted to
go somewhere and relax, just the two of us."

The contemporary styling of
the Viceroy Hotel is more
refective of South Beach than
the Caribbean. Meads Bay is
upper left, while Barnes Bay
Beach is lower right.
