Global Cuisine
Each year the Wine and
Dine organizers select
a new theme. Last year
entrees featured cuisine
from France, Italy and
northern Africa. In 2014-
15, "our theme is an
American road trip," says
Arandas. "We started off
with a lowcountry boil
from South Carolina,
and we will end with a
group pig roast in May."
One dinner Ragland will
never forget is the Ladies
Appreciation Dinner in
May 2012. "The men did a
great job," she says. "They
had a specialty drink for
us when we walked in and
they followed a very specific
checklist provided by the
previous chairwoman.
The menu included beef
Wellington and an eclair pie
for dessert. "We really felt
appreciated and I must say
some of the men are very
good cooks!" Ragland says.
For the men, the dinner
clubs have provided an
outlet for bonding of
their own. While some
may have been skeptics
at first, by the end of the
first gathering, most are
usually sold. "At first my
husband went kicking
and screaming," laughs
Arandas. "Now he says,
'When are we all getting
together again? I have some
new cigars for people.'"
