Couples pay $40 a month to cover the cost of wine for the evening. Global Cuisine Each year the Wine and Dine organizers select a new theme. Last year entrees featured cuisine from France, Italy and northern Africa. In 2014- 15, "our theme is an American road trip," says Arandas. "We started off with a lowcountry boil from South Carolina, and we will end with a group pig roast in May." One dinner Ragland will never forget is the Ladies Appreciation Dinner in May 2012. "The men did a great job," she says. "They had a specialty drink for us when we walked in and they followed a very specific checklist provided by the previous chairwoman. The menu included beef Wellington and an eclair pie for dessert. "We really felt appreciated and I must say some of the men are very good cooks!" Ragland says. For the men, the dinner clubs have provided an outlet for bonding of their own. While some may have been skeptics at first, by the end of the first gathering, most are usually sold. "At first my husband went kicking and screaming," laughs Arandas. "Now he says, 'When are we all getting together again? I have some new cigars for people.'" The Ardrey Commons Gourmet Club created elegant Meringue Chantillies.
