Eastwood Raises Nearly $50,000 Charlotte-based homebuilder Eastwood Homes hosted its second annual golf outing Oct. 13 at Raintree Country Club, raising nearly $50,000. All proceeds went to Levine Children's Hospital (LCH). In addition, the company contributes gifts and necessities to patients and their families at LCH through the Eastwood Homes' Hospitality Cart, which circles patient foors on a daily basis. Braces by Bird Collects Candy Braces by Bird, an orthodontics practice in Cedar Walk, collected candy in November to donate to Second Harvest Food Bank. In addition, Dr. Suzanne Bird gave $1 per pound of donations to participating middle schools: Community House, Indian Land, Marvin Ridge, J.M. Robinson, Carmel, Cuthbertson, Weddington and Fort Mill. Donations were collected at a red bin outside the offces of Braces by Bird. In 2013, the practice collected 262 pounds of candy in a similar effort. Tournament Supports STEM The Charlotte chapter of the Society of Information Management held its frst charity golf tournament in October at The Golf Club at Ballantyne. Funds raised beneft science, technology, engineering and math programs — best known as "STEM" — in Charlotte schools. Club Supports Folds of Honor The Golf Club at Ballantyne recently participated in Patriot Golf Day, raising nearly $18,000 to beneft the Folds of Honor Foundation — an organization that provides post-secondary educational scholarships for children and spouses of military service men and women killed or disabled while serving the nation. The club accepted donations for three days in exchange for complimentary buckets of range balls and rounds of golf depending on donation amount. Jointly supported by the PGA of America and the U.S. Golf Association, Patriot Golf Day has allowed the Folds of Honor Foundation to distribute more than 2,000 scholarships internationally.
