I AM EXCITED AND HONORED TO INTRODUCE MYSELF TO YOU AS THE NEW VOICE OF BALLANTYNE MAGAZINE. While I have been involved behind the scenes for more than five years, I look forward to connecting with more of you as we continue to bring a fresh perspective to the magazine. First, thank you to everyone who took the time to complete our reader survey. Your responses help guide us as we strive to create words and images that reflect the true essence of the people, spirit and place known as Ballantyne. With busy holiday schedules and the launch of a new year, sometimes we're focused on everyone but ourselves. But regardless of how consuming your commitments, our "Packed Schedule?" feature shows you simple strategies to improve your health and well-being. For those with a little more time and in need of a major rejuvenation, the beauty and charm of Anguilla are the perfect solution to the winter blues. Read about the captivating island in our new travel section entitled "Escape." As a child growing up in the Midwest, I spent hours ice skating on the neighborhood pond while dressed in multiple layers of warm clothing. Fortunately Ballantyne residents enjoy the luxury of sidestepping the outdoor elements by playing on the ice indoors. From hockey to group or individual figure skating, Pineville's Ice House serves up skating without the fear of frostbite. After hours on the icy pond, my mother would treat us to hot cocoa as a quick warm-up. In Style Points, hot cocoa sticks with homemade marshmallows presents a new twist to the traditional winter sip. Looking to expand your social circle, culinary or entertaining skills? Dinner clubs create perfect opportunities to enjoy good food and wine while communing with neighbors and making new friends. We visit two Ballantyne- local dinner clubs that have found the experience to be not really about the meal but the people. For those who prefer someone else do the cooking, popular Blackthorne Restaurant & Bar offers a local- inspired menu and a contemporary but warm environment. Check it out in Fab Fare. In Expert Direct, we present easy tips to elevate your fashion savvy, enabling you to arrive not only comfortable but confident to your next party occasion. Confidence is something certainly not lacking in the three individuals we profile in Faces; we guarantee they will make you smile. One of the special qualities I find in the people of Ballantyne is their tireless dedication to give time and money to causes they champion. In Who Knew? we showcase a much-needed local gift to Endhaven Elementary that enhances the health and safety of Ballantyne-area children. On behalf of the entire team at Ballantyne Magazine, I encourage you to find time for yourself and to treasure each moment you spend with loved ones. Savoring the present is what it's all about. Best Regards, Regina Robertson Editor-in-Chief BALLANTYNE | editor's letter True Essence Capturing the People and S pirit of Ballantyne With busy holiday schedules and the launch of a new year , sometimes we're focused on everyone but ourselves 10 BALLANTYNE MAGAZINE WINTER 2014-2015
