Flyover Bridge Opens
The N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has
opened the new fyover bridge connecting Johnston
Road to the inner loop of I-485. The long anticipated road
improvement provides direct access for motorists traveling
north on Johnston Road to the inner loop without having to
wait at a traffc signal to turn left, enhancing traffc fow.
The fyover is part of the $83.3 million I-485 widening
project to add one lane in each direction between
I-77 and Rea Road. NCDOT offcials caution that
motorists should remain alert in the area because work
on the widening project is still in progress. Scheduled
completion date on the widening is December 2014.
