WHEN IT COMES TO DESTINATIONS, Charleston, S.C., ranks as the Grand Dame of the South, a city whose cultural charms never lose their allure. Through wars, earthquakes and hurricanes, Charleston has managed to accomplish that rarest of feats — maintaining its historical legacy and defining architecture while reinventing its art, music and food scene to stay one step ahead of the societal curve. "Charleston is a one-of-a-kind city having so much to offer in terms of history, culture, culinary excellence, entertainment and outdoor activities," says Ryan Klomparens, a physical therapist with Carolina Neurosurgery and Spine Associates in Ballantyne Corporate Park. He returns regularly to the Lowcountry of his youth to renew his acquaintance with the city's restaurants and attractions.
