Their schedules are challenging. On average, the firefighters work one 24-hour shift followed by 24-hours off. They then work another 24-hour rotation and take 48 hours off. Another 24-hour shift is followed by another day off; then, one more day of work is required before they take four days off. On those days off, many firefighters work two and three jobs to support their families. Vince Wolfe teaches fire training at Gaston College, South Piedmont Community College and Cleveland Community College.
