Pineville is shooting for the lowest level of LEED certification, known simply as "LEED-certified." Other local buildings have higher ratings, such as the uptown children's library, ImaginOn, which opened as LEED Silver in 2005, and the Duke Energy Center, which is LEED Platinum. CMS eschews sustainable but higher-cost materials such as cork floors and reflective pavement. "I think we've struck a reasonable balance between the measures we employ in these schools and the cost that it takes to employ them," Chamberlain says.
