BALLANTYNE | wire SWEET CHARITIES Church Holds 'Faith in Action' Sunday BCC Rally Celebrates 10th Anniversary This fall the all-volunteer Ballantyne Country Club Rally celebrates its 10th year of raising awareness and funds for Susan G. Komen for the Cure. In the summer, the BCC Barracudas swim team sold snow cones, cotton candy and pink bows to raise more than $1,600 for BCC Rally. The team also showed their support by wearing pink swim caps. In just fve years, BCC Rally's home-grown Pink Bow Campaign has netted $160,000 for the cause. The campaign raised a record $57,000 in 2012, including donations from England, Germany, Hong Kong, Australia, Switzerland and the Cayman Islands. Since 2004, BCC Rally has raised $934,000 and is on track to meet the $1 million goal for its 10th anniversary. Register for BCC Rally events at www.bccrally.org. Foundation Hosts Race Sept. 21 The Isabella Santos Foundation's 6th Annual Race for Kids Cancer is scheduled for 8 a.m. Sept. 21 in Ballantyne Corporate Park. Last year the 5K race drew 1,600 participants and raised $200,000 to help fnd a cure for pediatric cancer and support local children's charities. The organization honors Isabella Santos, the daughter of Ballantyne residents Erin and Stuart Santos, who died of neuroblastoma. Registration and details: www. isabellasantosfoundation.com. On Sept. 8, Harrison United Methodist Church will forego its Sunday service so volunteers from the congregation and community can spend a day of "Faith in Action" — doing home repairs, landscaping, visits with the elderly and other projects that support local agencies, such as the Charlotte Rescue Mission, Bethlehem Center, Pineville Elementary and Moore Place. Golf Tourney Helps Kidney Patients The National Kidney Foundation stages its annual local golf tournament, The Cadillac Golf Classic, at Ballantyne Country Club on Monday, Oct. 21. The top three fnishers will be eligible to compete in a national championship at Pebble Beach Resorts. The event concludes with a barbecue dinner, silent auction and raffe. Big South Holds 5K Oct. 19 The Big South Conference will host the fourth annual Big South 5K Road Race on Saturday, Oct. 19 in the Ballantyne area. The course begins and ends at Blakeney Shopping Center. Last year a record 1,200 participants representing 50 local middle schools in Mecklenburg and Union counties helped raise $17,000 for middle school athletic programs.
