McGee announced June 5 that the school is opening a Ballantyne campus and offering classes for the fall 2013 semester. Educational offerings include an MBA program, graduate programs in sport management and education, continuing-education programs and an undergraduate program for working adults. The university's 13,657-square-foot facility consists of 10 classrooms, administrative offces and a computer lab. The address is 13024 Ballantyne Corporate Place, Suite 150 in the Harris Building. Wingate University, ranked as the sixth "Best Value" in the South by U.S. News & World Report, serves nearly 2,700 students on its three campuses — Wingate, N.C. in Union County, Hendersonville, N.C. in Henderson County and Ballantyne. 'To Catch a Thief' Nov. 12 A professional networking group, Ballantyne Briefngs, will present "To Catch a Thief: You Don't Have to be a Criminal to Think Like One" at its fourth quarter meeting Tuesday, Nov. 12 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Aloft Charlotte Ballantyne. Claire Rauscher with the law frm Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice is the speaker. The event is targeted to small-business owners and co-hosted by Starrett Law Firm, Ameriprise, McArthur & Co. and Cornerstone Property Advisors. All-Day Ballantyne Festival Oct. 5 The annual Ballantyne Festival hosted by the Morrison Family YMCA, Ballantyne Breakfast Club and Ballantyne Chapter of the Chamber of Commerce, is Saturday Oct. 5 at the Morrison Y. The free, family-friendly event kicks off at 9 a.m. with a parade, followed by games, crafts, entertainment, dancing and food vendors. The all-day festival also features the annual Candidates Meet & Greet Chili Cook-Off from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Political candidates running for national, state and local offces will be there to meet the public, with local organizations offering their best take on chili. Judges from Johnson & Wales will select the three winners of the cook-off. "A community like Ballantyne needs a signature festival event," says Steve Bowers, president of the 14 BALLANTYNE MAGAZINE Morrison Family Y. "A partnership between the Charlotte Chamber, the Ballantyne Breakfast Club and the YMCA is the best way to achieve this goal." "Today the Ballantyne Festival provides the residents of the strong and growing South Charlotte/Ballantyne area a unique opportunity to meet with and get to know the candidates and what they stand for," says Ray Eschert, president of the Ballantyne Breakfast Club, which founded the cook-off fve years ago.
