"Ballantyne is so rich in green spaces that I thought the summer issue ideal to feature parks that readers might not have explored." Also, when growing up out West, Nan visited Hopi and Navajo Indian reservations and has long been intrigued by Garrett's Antiques & Indian Shop. She writes about it for this issue. PAGES 38 and 84 Dawn Liles Dawn is a freelance writer, recent empty nester and self-professed grammar geek who loves traveling with her husband and visiting her children. For this issue, she explored the role friendships play, particularly in the lives of women. "I am blessed with wonderful, close friendships, and I wanted to help other women in the area find the same," she says. PAGE 48 Devin Gant A Charlotte native and traveling freelance makeup artist, Devin was Miss North Carolina USA 2016 and spent two seasons with the Charlotte Hornets as a Honey Bee. In this issue, she modeled some of L.A. East's most popular summer styles. "I love how the pieces are transitional and can be worn from spring to summer and even into fall," she says.
