The event raised more than $150,000 and presented 18 new scholarship winners. Event sponsors included SPX Corp., SPX Flow, Biologix, Ernst & Young and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Scott and Andrea Sproule brought the charity to Charlotte in 2011 and have helped raise more than $800,000 to fund annual scholarships for cancer survivors. Started in San Diego, California, in 1994, Cancer for College has awarded more than 1,200 scholarships over its 25 years, totaling more than $3 million. "This disease can devastate families. College funds — gone. It's a pay-it- forward charity," says Scott, chief financial officer and treasurer for SPX Corp. "Scholarship recipients wind up making an impact, many in the medical field."
