FOURTH GENERATION "I'm a fourth-generation fireman," Matthews-based Wolfe says. "I've been married for 10 years and have three boys." Wolfe's children are 10, 8 and 3. The family spends a lot of free time playing baseball. He teaches his boys what he knows about the sport but says he's not that good it. "We try to stay local," he says of games "They play in the Mint Hill area." Across town, in the Steele Creek community, Capt. Matthew Fullam spends time with his family whenever he is not at the station or working part time at a furniture store. "I fix La-Z-Boy furniture," he says. "There are some guys that build houses; many of the firefighters mow grass or do landscaping. A lot drive trucks." Fullam is married with two children, ages 6 and 8. He and his son are involved with Cub Scouts, and the whole family is active at Forest Hill Church. On the rare date night he and his wife get, they enjoy Japanese food with friends. Date nights with spouses are a favorite among the firefighters. Judge Manning and his wife of four years enjoy going to Mellow Mushroom in Ballantyne. But those date nights can be tough to squeeze in, as Manning also works at another fire department in Indian Trail and at a third part- time gig as a truck driver. He and his wife also enjoy spending time at the U.S. National Whitewater Center or Andrew Jackson State Park, which is closer to their home in Indian Land. "We try to be outdoorsy," Manning says. "We like to bike and canoe." The couple is also active at Ridge Church in Matthews, where they help with Sunday School.
