Schools, TreesCharlotte Honor Arbor Day
TreesCharlotte planted 230 trees at Polo Ridge Elementary School and
Flat Branch Park on March 5 to celebrate Arbor Day.
More than 250 volunteers attended, and the North Carolina Wildlife
Federation provided children's activities. Keep Charlotte Beautiful and
Keep America Beautiful sponsored the event. Charlotte-Mecklenburg
Schools (CMS) Superintendent Ann Clark and City Council Representative
Ed Driggs attended.
Also in recognition of Arbor Day, TreesCharlotte provided educational
programming about trees at Hawk Ridge Elementary School, planted a
redbud tree on campus and gave away seedlings to students on March 18.
TreesCharlotte, a nonproft dedicated to planting trees, held similar
events at six other CMS locations as part of its Arbor Week celebration, in
which it planted or gave away 1,200 trees and 2,500 seedlings. More info:
