"Our goal is to have things blend together, with good activities that give people in this area a reason to come here, whether to shop, dine, walk the nature trails or work out at Sara's Y." As Ned Curran — president of Northwood Office, which operates BCP for Northwood Inves- tors — elaborates, "John's vision is to enhance all that Ballantyne Corporate Park can be, to go from primarily corporate of- fice into all mixed uses." According to Kukral, this is where Northwood's broad and diverse management platforms and expertise help. The company owns Blakeney, for instance, and so its retail team will provide added value. "In addition to retail, David Ravin and his multifamily team have great ideas to bring residential into BCP. We will also merge the hotel platform here with our hotel platform." 'Newfound Excitement' Bissell founder Smoky Bissell insisted his 600 employees were to be grandfathered into the deal — a move he and Northwood agreed would ensure not only a smooth transition but continued maintenance of the high quality that Bissell has estab- lished throughout BCP. At an all-staff meeting shortly after the ownership transfer, Kukral outlined Northwood's plans for future development and was met with decided enthusi- asm. "Our employees now have a newfound excite- ment and commitment because of Northwood's vision," Curran says. Community Impact "The Bissell organization has done a phenomenal job creating one of the most preeminent environments in the country," says Kukral. "Our goal is to continue to raise the bar and evolve Ballantyne into not just a place where people work and stay, but to add choices to make it even more at- tractive to everyone." Curran also notes that from the vantage point of Bissell, one of the most ap- pealing aspects of North- wood Investors is its long- term hold strategy. "They will nurture and enhance the assets," he maintains. "Clearly, in purchasing most of Ballantyne Corporate Park, Northwood appreciated its value and what it has meant to the area, the city and the state. I am confident that under the leadership of Northwood we will continue to see growth and value that benefit our community." Ray Eschert Founder Ballantyne Breakfast Club "The Ballantyne area is an amazing, thriving community. We appreciate our relationship with the corporate park and feel excited about the changes North- wood has planned. More shopping and dining options will expand upon the great choices already here. New housing will add to the dynamic feel of the area."
