W I R E At a Glance What's happening in and around Ballantyne Meck-South Rotary Celebrates 20 Years M ecklenburg County-South Rotary Club celebrated its 20-year anniversary in May. Known as "Meck-South," the club has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years to help child-related nonprofits. Among those groups are: Alexander Children's Home, Elon Children's Home, A Child's Place, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Habitat for Humanity. Matching grants were given to the club for projects with Elon Homes, Holy Angels, Rainbow Express Camp and Camp Boomerang. The club also has sponsored — and members have housed — eight youth exchange students. Meck-South raises funds through silent auctions, holiday wreath sales and duck races. For the past three years, the club has sponsored the BMOF (Bloody Marys on Five) Golf Tournament at Piper Glen Country Club. The event has raised more than $150,000 for Beds for Kids and other nonprofits. Members meet for breakfast Fridays at 7:30 a.m. at Another Broken Egg Cafe in Ballantyne Corners.
