BALLANTYNE MAGAZINE 87 WINTER 2016-2017 Now the largest ski resort in North America based on lifts and runs, Park City is three alpine ski destinations in one: Park City Mountain Resort and neighboring Canyons Resort, which were recently linked via the Quicksilver Gondola, plus prestigious Deer Valley Resort, renowned for its white-glove service, which includes ski valets who tote your gear from the parking lot to the slope. Each destination sports its own mountains, runs, amenities and accommodations, but only Park City Mountain and Canyons allow snowboarders. "Park City has such a great expanse of slopes that it can't be beat for the sheer number of runs," says Russell Talley, an avid snowboarder who is a sales representative for Ambry Genetics and works part- time at Sun & Ski Sports in Promenade on Providence. Last February he visited Park City for the first time and was astounded to discover that Park City, the Canyons and Deer Valley have a total of 59 lifts with 401 runs on 9,326 skiable acres. "I spent more time on the Canyons side because I prefer the challenging terrain," Talley says. "But what is so great is that if there is a huge crowd on Park City Mountain, you can just zip over to the Canyons."
