BALLANTYNE | wire SWEET CHARITIES YOUNGER SET Scouts Win Silver Awards Ardrey Kell High students Archana Jayasekar and Rajani Guditi from Troop 3744 earned Girl Scout Silver Awards this spring. Their award project involved forming a math- tutoring club for seventh graders at Community House Middle School, where they could share their longtime passion for math education. Their project also spurred interest from Ardrey Kell High's National Junior Honors Society and Beta Club, whose members earn volunteer hours for working with the math-tutoring club. Charlotte Mayor Jennifer Roberts and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Superintendent Ann Clark spoke at the awards ceremony. Taryn Rimland, a leadership and development manager with the local Girl Scouts (right), congratulates Archana Jayasekar and Rajani Guditi on their awards. 24 BALLANTYNE MAGAZINE FALL 2016 Rally Hosts Events, Bow Campaign The 2016 BCC Rally, an all- volunteer nonprofit that raises funds and awareness to fight breast cancer, will host four major events this September at Ballantyne Country Club. BCC Rally events are open to the public and feature: • "Night in the Caribbean" on Saturday, Sept. 17, features dinner, dancing, music and an auction sponsored by Skatell's Manufacturing Jewelers. • "Set Sail into Rally" is the theme for the women's golf event on Tuesday, Sept. 20, sponsored by Aetna. Golf is followed by a luncheon with founding sponsor Charlotte Radiology. • The Men's Pink Ball Golf Tournament, a four-man team event with an informal buffet, follows on Thursday, Sept. 22, sponsored by KPMG. • The Beach Bash Tennis Event is Friday, Sept. 23. During the fall, BCC Rally's Pink Bow Campaign for businesses, neighborhoods, individuals and schools helps organizations hold their own rally fundraising events. Bows come in three sizes — small ($2), medium ($5) and large ($7). Funds raised by BCC Rally support the work of Komen Charlotte in 13 local counties as well as breast cancer research at Carolinas' universities. Since its founding in 2004, BCC Rally has raised more than $1.6 million and earned a Susan G. Komen Lifetime Pink Ribbon Circle Award. Registration/info: www.bccrally.org. Kick Up Your (High) Heels! The 6th Annual Stiletto Sprint is Saturday, Sept. 17, at 8 a.m. at SouthPark Mall. Presented by Bissell Companies, the event benefits ovarian cancer research and programs at Levine Cancer Institute. Sign up for competitive or noncompetitive sprints, and bring spectators to watch and enjoy the festivities. The event is in the parking lot area near the mall's Symphony Park.
