YOUNGER SET West Point Taps Student for Seminar Samuel Austin McGee, a junior at Grace Academy in Matthews who lives in Ballantyne, has been selected as one of 1,000 attendees at West Point's Summer Leaders Experience (SLE) in June. More than 5,000 juniors nationwide applied for the opportunity to experience life at the military academy. The one-week seminars are designed to help juniors with their college-selection process and give them an idea of the importance of leadership and sound decision-making in their lives. Sam McGee Jordan Riter and Jenna Segmiller Girls Complete Silver Scout Award Girl Scouts Jordan Riter and Jenna Segmiller from Troop 440 in Ballantyne recently completed their silver award. The two focused their award efforts on helping students in the sixth to eighth grades adjust to middle school. Jordan partnered with a Community House Middle School teacher to create a weekly "Girl Power" club that created a safe environment for middle-school girls to discuss topics such as bullying, gossip, making new friends and ftting in. Jenna developed a middle-school survival booklet that is currently being used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools for newly enrolled students.
