EVERY JUNE AFTER SCHOOL LETS OUT, MY FAMILY AND I DRIVE DOWN TO HILTON HEAD. There's something about biking to breakfast along the trails of Highway 278 and playing in the sand-flled Gregg Russell Harbour Town Playground in Sea Pines that signals the start to summer. That frst ice cream at Frozen Moo, that frst gator we see on the shores of a plantation, that frst walk on the beach — all make it ofcial: Summer is here! In this issue's Escape, we discover the many reasons why last year Yahoo.com named Hilton Head its No. 1 Most Popular U.S. Island for Summer Vacations. A mere 4½-hour drive from Ballantyne, the Lowcountry destination ofers something for every vacationer. To help you prepare for summertime outings, we devote Style Points to the latest sun-savvy products and ofer a feature on making picnics easy and fun. This issue of Ballantyne Magazine marks my frst as editor-in-chief. Regina Robertson, the former editor, recently expanded her role as special projects coordinator to assume the position of assistant to Smoky Bissell, chairman of The Bissell Companies. I'm happy to share that I sit not far from Regina in the ofce; therefore, the magazine and I personally will continue benefting from her vast knowledge and experience. What an auspicious time for me to join the Ballantyne Magazine staf! In this issue, we celebrate the 20th anniversary of The Golf Club at Ballantyne. We also introduce Sara's YMCA, which opened in February and is already being touted as a gem in Ballantyne Corporate Park. My family and I recently moved to the greater Ballantyne area, and I look forward to exploring my new neighborhood with you in these pages. Together we will tell the story of Ballantyne. Please share with me your thoughts and ideas at jgreenwald@ballantynemagazine.com. Our goal at Ballantyne Magazine is to share information and insights that enhance your days. In the summer weeks ahead, we hope they'll be flled with sun and packed with adventure.
