faces | BALLANTYNE SANDRA NARANJO-DEMING Birthplace: Ibarra, Ecuador. Job: Director, Acceso Strategy, a marketing consultation, design, media-buying and translation firm. What do you like most about your job? I enjoy connecting Charlotte- region companies with the Spanish-speaking population. It is a wide spectrum; my clients include local companies marketing to customers in Charlotte, businesses developing multicultural strategies and companies reaching Hispanics through social media. What's your guilty pleasure? Frozen yogurt, and on the rare occasion I am able, sleeping in on weekends. Do you live in Ballantyne? Yes, I moved here in the spring of 2003. I chose this area because it has great schools and wonderful neighborhoods. I think there is something to be said for living in an area where things are clean, orderly and beautiful. What is your favorite Ballantyne-area restaurant? Among my favorites are 131 Main, Firebirds and Miró. Love American cuisine! What is your favorite outdoor activity? It's a bit of a cliché, but I really like to spend the day lying on the beach with family, reading a good book. Usually in North Carolina or Florida, more rarely in Ecuador. Describe your dream vacation. I have friends and family in Spain and Belgium, so I've been contemplating a vacation starting in Majorca, with a stint in Paris, and ending in Brussels or Amsterdam. But life is hectic — two teenage daughters, full workload and social time with my friends and husband — so that vacation has been a "dream" for a while now. What would be your theme song for walking into a room? "My Way." What is your favorite news source? The Sunday New York Times and The Charlotte Observer. I would rather be caught dead than wear _____. Something you've seen before. What charitable organizations are you involved with? Slow Food Charlotte: community gardens in food deserts, farmer's markets, good wine, great food, and fabulous people. I am also a Leadership Charlotte participant, Class 33. I am excited about our community project involving Parent University. What is your biggest pet peeve: Narrow-mindedness — people who are overly sure of their opinions who haven't taken even 10 minutes to consider another perspective or the big picture beyond their immediate interests. What would someone never guess about you? I am one of the few people on earth with a Galapagos Islands permanent residency card. I lived and worked there for five years.
