Check out what's in store: Making Gingerbread Houses: Saturday, Dec. 3, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., learn how to make impressive gingerbread houses at the Cooking School. Cost: $75 per person. Brunching with Santa: Santa Claus is coming Sunday, Dec. 11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Children can sit on Santa's lap, and everyone enjoys a breakfast buffet that includes a carving station and desserts. There also will be a surprise visit from The Grinch. Cameras welcome. Cost: $45 for adults and $20 for children ages 5 to 12 (ages 4 and under are complimentary). Competing in the Ultimate Cupcake & Cookie Challenge: This popular event returns on Sunday, Dec. 18 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Cost to enter is $10, which benefits Levine Children's Hospital. The culinary team will select three winners in each category. Grand prize for each category is an overnight stay in a Parlor Suite with breakfast in bed. Hot chocolate also comes with the option to add Godiva liqueurs and a selection of garnishes. Cost: $5 ($8 with liqueur). There also will be live entertainment in the Main Lobby. Sipping Holiday Tea: Have a spot of seasonal afternoon tea donation per vote. All proceeds benefit Levine Children's Hospital. Feasting at Christmas Day Brunch: This festive spread returns Sunday, Dec. 25 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Ballantyne Ballroom. The Ringing in New Year's at Gallery Restaurant & Bar: Welcome in 2012 with a live DJ, appetizers and drink specials in the Great Hall beginning at 9 p.m. Enjoy a champagne toast at midnight. There will be a $25 cover charge for attendees not staying or dining at the hotel. Spending New Year's Eve Overnight: Celebrate 2012 in dining rooms are available. Choices feature loose- leaf blends from Harney & Sons Teas and a selection of savory tea sandwiches, confectionaries and holiday treats. Strolling Gingerbread Lane: Enjoy an enchanting collection of gingerbread houses from Saturday, Dec. 10 through Monday, Dec. 26. This traditional, creative display is open daily to the public. Attendees may vote for their favorite gingerbread house with a $1 minimum style with an overnight package that includes an elegant room, dinner in Gallery Restaurant, complimentary valet parking and a 2 p.m. late checkout.
