BALLANTYNE | faces MARIE COLLINS Birthplace : Birmingham, Ala. Job: Executive administrator to Mark Eason at Firebirds Wood Fired Grills. What do you like most about your job? The great team of people I work with. I have never worked with a company that is so people- focused, and it truly makes a difference! (I have been with Firebirds for more than 13 years.) What's your guilty pleasure? Doritos (nacho cheese) and a Snickers bar — yum! Do you live in Ballantyne? Yes. I moved to Charlotte 14 years ago and have always lived in this area. What is your favorite Ballantyne-area restaurant? Firebirds Wood Fired Grill! My favorite dish is the chicken pasta, but the wood-grilled salmon is a close second. With most meals, I have a side of tortilla slaw, one of those items that keep me wanting more. What is your favorite outdoor activity? Lately, it is swimming. I just joined the Mecklenburg Swim Association Masters, and I love it. The U.S. National Whitewater Center is also one of my favorite places. Describe your dream vacation. I am a travel lover. This summer I am taking my parents to Scotland to celebrate their 40th anniversary with their frst international trip. I have always wanted to see the Highland Games, so this is a dream come true for all of us. What would your theme song be for walking into a room? "I Gotta Feeling" by the Black Eyed Peas. That song just makes me smile every time I hear it. But I have been told that my song should be "Stir It Up" by Bob Marley because I am always getting into something. What is your favorite news source? Flipboard. It provides news from different sources in one convenient location. I would be rather caught dead than wear_____. A romper or velour jumpsuit — well, velour anything. What is your biggest pet peeve? Mumbling. What is a hidden gem in Ballantyne? The store, fab'rik. It offers cute boutique styles but reasonable prices. Share something that someone would never guess about you. I do not own a hairbrush, but I do own more shoes and purses than anyone should ever have. 32 BALLANTYNE MAGAZINE SUMMER 2014 Ball Summer 14 - 1.indd 32 5/21/14 4:27 PM
