BALLANTYNE | wire THE YOUNGER SET School Garden Dedicated A dedication ceremony was held in May for the Endhaven Elementary School Arts Garden. A grant from the Arts & Science Council, in cooperation with the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, enabled the school to build the garden. On its Facebook page, the council lauded the school's teachers, noting that Katherine Hutchens, Dee Chinault and Robin Cogan "worked with students and Bechtler Museum of Modern Art staff to create a tree sculpture made from plywood and plastic water bottles, mosaic stepping stones, mosaic sculptures for the new garden beds and an outdoor musical sculpture. They are based on Niki de Saint Phalle's mosaic artwork. An outstanding job by some of our wonderful teachers!" Students Hold Operation Sandwich Fourth graders at Providence Spring Elementary participated in the school's eighth annual Operation Sandwich, a week- long service project in which the students spend their mornings making sandwiches for the homeless served through the Urban Ministry Center in Uptown Charlotte. The students made approximately 3,750 sandwiches. Students, teachers and parents also staged a talent show, bake sale and silent auction to raise money.
